I just wanted to post about a remix of the 404 background that I decided to make after feeling like getting my hands dirty with Illustrator. I got the logo using live trace, (even though the .ai file might be floating around somewhere) and then just went from there, with a little bit of a darker theme.
Just to let you guys know, the images are in png format, so if you need it in another format, just open it in your image editor (Paint, Photoshop, Gimp, etc.) and save it in whatever format you need. If you want the Illustrator file, i might put it up eventually. If you really want it right now, direct message or @reply me on twitter. Also, critique is always good, so post a comment, or twitter me if you think something should be changed.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m starting my first year of computer science(CO-OP) at the University of Waterloo in a couple of days. This means that until I get my new laptop(17″ MacBook Pro!) I will be on a bit of a hiatus. As many of you know university can be very time consuming, so don’t expect too much even when I do get a computer. Anyways enough of that boring personal stuff.
I’ve been wondering what other peoples experience has been with school and preparing for school if it’s your first year like mine. For me it is kind of nerve racking. Living on my own for the first time is a big change. Also the large amount if time committment required is a huge change. I want to watch as much hockey and play as much games as I can, and catch every episode of lost and fringe, but realistically that won’t happen as much as I want it too.
Another thing I have come to realize, I HATE filling out forms! I have filled out so many forms to apply for school and scholarships, that it’s driving me bonkers. Any one else agree? Maybe I’m whining a bit but it it’s just something I have noticed lately.
In a totally unrelated subject, I am really getting amped for this season of hockey. As a leaf fan, a lot is still uncertain. I do like most of the changes that Burkey has been making though. It will be nice to see a defense that can keep the puck away from the net. I am kind of uneasy about our offense. With the loss of Antropov part way through last season we are left without any good 1st line. Many say defense wins cups, but come on, you need to score a bit.
Anyways, that is all for now. Feel free to post any thoughts on any of the topics brought up. Also I’m thinking about maybe doing a review of District 9 and/or Inglourious Basterds if I find some time.
My first full part from skate 2. The self titled video is basically a combination of all the best clips I have collected from my skate reel. Enjoy! (sorry for the bad quality, I will re-upload when I have time to render it out in better quality)
Just wanted to give an update on some of the things I am working on right now/have just finished.
Game Engine Development
The big thing I’m working on right now is a custom made game engine specifically for games with an old school, platformer type gameplay. The temporary name right now is just MF Game Engine(until I find something more creative than basically my initials). The thing that sets it apart from the old games is that I am planning to use 3D graphics, just from a side-view. If anyone has played New Super Mario Bros, you know what I mean.
The last couple of days I have been working on the tile-based physics for the engine, and just finished the main stuff. For now it loads a map from a simple text file, displays the physics objects(not what players would see in a game), and has the normal, old school character dynamics. Here is a sample from the basic demo I setup using the engineĀ (The character is the single box floating in the air. Not very exciting, but gets the job done).
Software Audio Fader
Lately I’ve been playing around with VidBlaster a lot on Windows (I need my Mac! CamTwist does everything for free!!) and my problem is that they do absolutely no audio mixing, other then setting basic volume percentages, and I wanted to be able to crossfade audio, while the video was doing the same. VidBlaster allows the different video sources to play the sound through different audio devices, so I used VAC (http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html) to output them to separate audio devices.
What I required then, was a way to automate the fading of different audio device volumes. Thats where my app comes in (for now called Swch). It allows you to fade/crossfade up to 4 audio device lines, and change the volume of one master volume line of your choosing. I plan on releasing this on my site as soon as I fix all of the bugs, and tidy it up a little. I may also consider open sourcing it as soon as I decide on a suitable license.
Comic Con 2009 Post
I was going to release a comic con story, but its kind of old news now. I think I will finish it though, and put it in the archives. So anyone wanting to hear my highlights of all the things that came out of this years comic con, look for that sometime soon.
Don’t panic though, as usual it should redirect here (as well as http://blendermf.890m.com). If for some reason you have a link to here, and its not too much of a hassle, update it, it would help with search ratings. Thanks and enjoy my new tasty .com domain (never thought I ever would have described a domain like that, but i did, so get over it). As a sidenote, hopefully now that I’m off from school for a bit i can post more, I’ll try at least.
This is my teams entry into the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board’s video contest. Yes, despite all of the random, crappy non-professional videos I have uploaded, I can actually create good looking videos. Most things on my channel are just tests and funny because of their badness. Hopefully you enjoy this one (or not because its serious)
This is just a video of what I think will be the final intro for my videos on my blog. At the end it shows a title and subtitle, that is just a test, although I might actually end up doing a tutorial on that blender stuff. Oh and it should be in HD, so check it out.
